The former calls zope.i18n.translate() which calls MessageCatalog.translate()
by passing 'default' argument to the original message, thus returning the
original message when there is no translation. But, when the latter is called
without 'default' argument, it is set to message.strip(), thus returning the
strip'ed original message.

so that we can disable adding new entries or we log the backtrace that
causes a new entry.

Don't fix the default_encoding at import time as it can be overriden later (ex. by a later import of zope configuration).

Don't assume objects to be str if they're not unicode

If they coincide with imported keys.

a bit modify previous commit ba435293, use untouched message for default, and explicitly convert to unicode for non existing case.

support non-ascii msgid and add a backward compatibility for the existing catalog that stores non-ascii msgid as str not unicode.

  * to_str does not return str result
  * typo in variable name

Also, use local imports of itools where this is still necessary,  and remove all mention of itools from ERP5 code.
