qxl_release should not be accesses after qxl_push_*_ring_release() calls: userspace driver can process submitted command quickly, move qxl_release into release_ring, generate interrupt and trigger garbage collector. It can lead to crashes in qxl driver or trigger memory corruption in some kmalloc-192 slab object Gerd Hoffmann proposes to swap the qxl_release_fence_buffer_objects() + qxl_push_{cursor,command}_ring_release() calls to close that race window. cc: stable@vger.kernel.org Fixes: f64122c1 ("drm: add new QXL driver. drm_dp_mst_wait_tx_reply() returns > 1 if time elapsed in wait_event_timeout() before check_txmsg_state(mgr, txmsg) evaluated to true. However, we make the mistake of returning this time from drm_dp_send_dpcd_write() on success instead of returning the number of bytes written - causing spontaneous failures during link probing: [drm:drm_dp_send_link_address [drm_kms_helper]] *ERROR* GUID check on 10:01 failed: 3975 Yikes! The uapi is the same on 32 and 64 bit, but the number isn't. Everyone who botched this please re-read: https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/v5.4-preprc-cpu/ioctl/botching-up-ioctls.html Also, the type argument for the ioctl macros is for the type the void __user *arg pointer points at, which in this case would be the variable-sized char[] of a 0 terminated string. The DispID DTD pixel clock is documented as: "00 00 00 h → FF FF FF h | Pixel clock ÷ 10,000 0.01 → 167,772.16 Mega Pixels per Sec" Which seems to imply that we to add one to the raw value. Reality seems to agree as there are tiled displays in the wild which currently show a 10kHz difference in the pixel clock between the tiles (one tile gets its mode from the base EDID, the other from the DispID block). tidss uses devm_kzalloc to allocate DRM plane, encoder and crtc objects. This is not correct as the lifetime of those objects should be longer than the underlying device's. When unloading tidss module, the devm_kzalloc'ed objects have already been freed when tidss_release() is called, and the driver will accesses freed memory possibly causing a crash, a kernel WARN, or other undefined behavior, and also KASAN will give a bug. This sorts the actual field names too, potentially causing even more chaos and confusion at merge time if you have edited the MAINTAINERS file. But the end result is a more consistent layout, and hopefully it's a one-time pain minimized by doing this just before the -rc1 release. This was entirely scripted: ./scripts/parse-maintainers.pl --input=MAINTAINERS --output=MAINTAINERS --order Requested-by: Joe Perches <joe@perches.com> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>

They are all supposed to be sorted, but people who add new entries don't always know the alphabet. Plus sometimes the entry names get edited, and people don't then re-order the entry. Let's see how painful this will be for merging purposes (the MAINTAINERS file is often edited in various different trees), but Joe claims there's relatively few patches in -next that touch this, and doing it just before -rc1 is likely the best time. Fingers crossed. This was scripted with /scripts/parse-maintainers.pl --input=MAINTAINERS --output=MAINTAINERS but then I also ended up manually upper-casing a few entry names that stood out when looking at the end result. Two types of #AC can be generated in Intel CPUs: 1. legacy alignment check #AC 2. split lock #AC Reflect #AC back into the guest if the guest has legacy alignment checks enabled or if split lock detection is disabled. If the #AC is not a legacy one and split lock detection is enabled, then invoke handle_guest_split_lock() which will either warn and disable split lock detection for this task or force SIGBUS on it. Emulate split-lock accesses as writes if split lock detection is on to avoid #AC during emulation, which will result in a panic(). This should never occur for a well-behaved guest, but a malicious guest can manipulate the TLB to trigger emulation of a locked instruction[1]. More discussion can be found at [2][3]. Without at least minimal handling for split lock detection induced #AC, VMX will just run into the same problem as the VMWare hypervisor, which was reported by Kenneth. It will inject the #AC blindly into the guest whether the guest is prepared or not. Provide a function for guest mode which acts depending on the host SLD mode. If mode == sld_warn, treat it like user space, i.e. emit a warning, disable SLD and mark the task accordingly. Otherwise force SIGBUS.
