[ Upstream commit 7323d598 ] Previously, the two voltage channels had the same ID, which didn't cause conflicts in sysfs only because one channel is named and the other isn't; this is still violating the spec though, two indexed channels should never have the same index. [ Upstream commit HEAD ] Based on 08adb7da upstream. We found that after v3.10.73, recvmsg might return -EFAULT while -EINVAL was expected. We tested it through the recvmsg01 testcase come from LTP testsuit. It set msg->msg_namelen to -1 and the recvmsg syscall returned errno 14, which is unexpected (errno 22 is expected): recvmsg01 4 TFAIL : invalid socket length ; returned -1 (expected -1), errno 14 (expected 22) Linux mainline has no this bug for commit 08adb7da fixes it accidentally. However, it is too large and complex to be backported to LTS 3.10. Commit 281c9c36 (net: compat: Update get_compat_msghdr() to match copy_msghdr_from_user() behaviour) made get_compat_msghdr() return error if msg_sys->msg_namelen was negative, which changed the behaviors of recvmsg and sendmsg syscall in a lib32 system: Before commit 281c9c36, get_compat_msghdr() wouldn't fail and it would return -EINVAL in move_addr_to_user() or somewhere if msg_sys->msg_namelen was invalid and then syscall returned -EINVAL, which is correct. And now, when msg_sys->msg_namelen is negative, get_compat_msghdr() will fail and wants to return -EINVAL, however, the outer syscall will return -EFAULT directly, which is unexpected. This patch gets the return value of get_compat_msghdr() as well as copy_msghdr_from_user(), then returns this expected value if get_compat_msghdr() fails. [ Upstream commit ee52e56e ] The mute-LED mode control has the fixed on/off states that are supposed to remain on/off regardless of the master switch. However, this doesn't work actually because the vmaster hook is called in the vmaster code itself. This patch fixes it by calling the hook indirectly after checking the mute LED mode. [ Upstream commit 28423ad2 ] While debugging an issue with excessive softirq usage, I encountered the following note in commit 3e339b5d ("softirq: Use hotplug thread infrastructure"): [ paulmck: Call rcu_note_context_switch() with interrupts enabled. ] ...but despite this note, the patch still calls RCU with IRQs disabled. This seemingly innocuous change caused a significant regression in softirq CPU usage on the sending side of a large TCP transfer (~1 GB/s): when introducing 0.01% packet loss, the softirq usage would jump to around 25%, spiking as high as 50%. Before the change, the usage would never exceed 5%. Moving the call to rcu_note_context_switch() after the cond_sched() call, as it was originally before the hotplug patch, completely eliminated this problem. [ Upstream commit 90f91b12 ] It seems Broadcom released two devices with conflicting device id. There are for sure 14e4:4321 PCI devices with BCM4321 (N-PHY) chipset, they can be found in routers, e.g. Netgear WNR834Bv2. However, according to Broadcom public sources 0x4321 is also used for 5 GHz BCM4306 (G-PHY). It's unsure if they meant PCI device id, or "virtual" id (from SPROM). To distinguish these devices lets check PHY type (G vs. N). [ Upstream commit 9253e667 ] Since commit "2426bd45 target: Report correct response ..." we might get a command with data_size that does not fit to the number of allocated data sg elements. Given that we rely on cmd t_data_nents which might be different than the data_size, we sometimes receive local length error completion. The correct approach would be to take the command data_size into account when constructing the ib sg_list. [ Upstream commit 6ab42ff4 ] On a HP Envy TouchSmart laptop, there are 2 speakers (main speaker and subwoofer speaker), 1 headphone and 2 DACs, without this fixup, the headphone will be assigned to a DAC and the 2 speakers will be assigned to another DAC, this assignment makes the surround-2.1 channels invalid. [ Upstream commit 412c98c1 ] The hwrng output buffers (2) are cast inside of a a struct (caam_rng_ctx) allocated in one DMA-tagged region. While the kernel's heap allocator should place the overall struct on a cacheline aligned boundary, the 2 buffers contained within may not necessarily align. Consenquently, the ends of unaligned buffers may not fully flush, and if so, stale data will be left behind, resulting in small repeating patterns. This fix aligns the buffers inside the struct. Note that not all of the data inside caam_rng_ctx necessarily needs to be DMA-tagged, only the buffers themselves require this. However, a fix would incur the expense of error-handling bloat in the case of allocation failure. [ Upstream commit 6fd4b156 ] Multiple function in asynchronous hashing use a saved-state block, a.k.a. struct caam_hash_state, which holds a stash of information between requests (init/update/final). Certain values in this state block are loaded for processing using an inline-if, and when this is done, the potential for uninitialized data can pose conflicts. Therefore, this patch improves initialization of state data to prevent false assignments using uninitialized data in the state block. This patch addresses the following traceback, originating in ahash_final_ctx(), although a problem like this could certainly exhibit other symptoms: kernel BUG at arch/arm/mm/dma-mapping.c:465! Hash value passed as argument into rhashtable_lookup_compare could be computed using different hash table than rhashtable_lookup_compare sees. This patch passes key into rhashtable_lookup_compare() instead of hash and compures hash value right in place using the same table as for lookup. Also it adds comment for rhashtable_hashfn and rhashtable_obj_hashfn: user must prevent concurrent insert/remove otherwise returned hash value could be invalid. Later platforms remove this bit, and apparently always enable the optimization. Improves performance in "Counter Strike: Global Offensive" by 18% at default settings on Iris Pro. This may break sampling of paletted formats (P8/A8P8/P8A8). It's unclear whether it affects sampling of paletted formats in general, or just the sample_c message (which is never used). While libva does have support for using paletted formats (primarily for OSDs), that support appears to have been broken for at least a year, so I couldn't observe a regression from this: I tried to get libva-intel to use paletted formats, and observe a regression...but the only thing I found that used it was mplayer's OSD (on screen display). Even without my patch, the colors were totally wrong with that, and it's according to a few distro wikis, that's been the case for over a year. If libva's code for paletted formats /is/ broken, they could always add code to disable this bit using the command validator when fixing it. Further investigation from Haihao shows that libva mplayer OSD seems to work at least on his setup (still unclear what's wron with Ken's), and that it's not affected by this patch. Quoting the discussion between Haihao and Ken: > > > If you use "-vo gl" or "-vo xv", the OSD is solid white text with a black > > > border around it. I presume that it's supposed to be white with vaapi as > > > well, but I guess I'm not entirely sure. > > > > > > It's possible that the optimization doesn't affect the palette as long as > > > you never use sample_c with the paletted textures. > > > > I verified the palette takes effect in the following way: > > > > 1. [ Upstream commit dd369297 ] The use of READ_ONCE() causes lots of warnings witht he pending paravirt spinlock fixes, because those ends up having passing a member to a 'const' structure to READ_ONCE(). There should certainly be nothing wrong with using READ_ONCE() with a const source, but the helper function __read_once_size() would cause warnings because it would drop the 'const' qualifier, but also because the destination would be marked 'const' too due to the use of 'typeof'. Use a union of types in READ_ONCE() to avoid this issue. Also make sure to use parenthesis around the macro arguments to avoid possible operator precedence issues. [ Upstream commit 085e68ee ] The host's decision to enable machine check exceptions should remain in force during non-root mode. KVM was writing 0 to cr4 on VCPU reset and passed a slightly-modified 0 to the vmcs.guest_cr4 value. Tested: Built. On earlier version, tested by injecting machine check while a guest is spinning. Before the change, if guest CR4.MCE==0, then the machine check is escalated to Catastrophic Error (CATERR) and the machine dies. If guest CR4.MCE==1, then the machine check causes VMEXIT and is handled normally by host Linux. After the change, injecting a machine check causes normal Linux machine check handling. [ Upstream commit 1e02ce4c ] Context switches and TLB flushes can change individual bits of CR4. CR4 reads take several cycles, so store a shadow copy of CR4 in a per-cpu variable. To avoid wasting a cache line, I added the CR4 shadow to cpu_tlbstate, which is already touched in switch_mm. The heaviest users of the cr4 shadow will be switch_mm and __switch_to_xtra, and __switch_to_xtra is called shortly after switch_mm during context switch, so the cacheline is likely to be hot. [ Upstream commit 375074cc ] CR4 manipulation was split, seemingly at random, between direct (write_cr4) and using a helper (set/clear_in_cr4). Unfortunately, the set_in_cr4 and clear_in_cr4 helpers also poke at the boot code, which only a small subset of users actually wanted. This patch replaces all cr4 access in functions that don't leave cr4 exactly the way they found it with new helpers cr4_set_bits, cr4_clear_bits, and cr4_set_bits_and_update_boot. [ Upstream commit 7d3beab1 ] This driver uses '#ifdef CONFIG_ARCH_SHMOBILE' and '#ifdef CONFIG_ARM' interchangeably in its sh_dmae_probe function, which causes a build warning when building for ARM without also enabling shmobile: dma/sh/shdmac.c: In function sh_dmae_probe: dma/sh/shdmac.c:696:6: warning: unused variable errirq [-Wunused-variable] dma/sh/shdmac.c:695:16: warning: unused variable irqflags [-Wunused-variable] dma/sh/shdmac.c: At top level: dma/sh/shdmac.c:447:20: warning: sh_dmae_err defined but not used [-Wunused-function] This changes all the #ifdef to test for CONFIG_ARCH_SHMOBILE to avoid that warning. [ Upstream commit 98b228f5 ] Until now, the EFI stub was only setting the 32 bit cmd_line_ptr in the setup_header structure, so on 64 bit platforms this could be truncated. This patch adds setting the upper bits of the buffer address in ext_cmd_line_ptr. This case was likely never hit, as the allocation for this buffer is done at the lowest available address. Only x86_64 kernels have this problem, as the 1-1 mapping mandated by EFI ensures that all memory is 32 bit addressable on 32 bit platforms. The EFI stub does not support mixed mode, so the 32 bit kernel on 64 bit firmware case does not need to be handled. [ Upstream commit 59d2d18c ] If CONFIG_ARCH_DMA_ADDR_T_64BIT enabled for x86 systems and physical memory is more than 4GB, dma_map_page may return a valid memory address which greater than 0xffffffff. As a result, the mlx5 device page allocator RB tree will be initialized with valid addresses greater than 0xfffffff. However, (addr & PAGE_MASK) set the high four bytes to zeros. So, it's impossible for the function, free_4k, to release the pages whose addresses greater than 4GB. Memory leaks. And mlx5_ib module can't release the pages when user try to remove the module, as a result, system hang.
